Sometimes, it's nice to have a separate computer system on a computer monitor. As a freelancer, I have one that I use for;
Work;
- Video editing
- Playing YouTube videos and tutorials
- Testing on alternate browsers, that I don't want installed on my main system
Play;
- Playing Spotify, or Netflix while I'm working
- Playing Games when I need a break
Sharing Your Keyboard & Mouse
In the past, you needed a hardware KVM for this, but today, software lets you share your keyboard and mouse smoothly over your network.
Microsoft has a free software KVM called Mouse Without Borders, which is perfect for this;
- Control up to 4 PC's with one keyboard and mouse
- Supports drag-and-drop copying of files
- Clipboard is "shared" so it's easy to copy a URL from one system and paste to open it on another.
Download it for free here.
NOTE: Mouse Without Borders is Windows-only and does not support Macs or Linux systems. If you'd like to share your keyboard and mouse across multiple different platforms, there are many other software KVMs that support Macs and Linux systems.
One of the more popular open source KVMs is Barrier, which works on multiple platforms.
I've not tried it yet, if you like it, let me know.
