Webflow templates probably work differently than you're used to.

In Webflow, a template is a starting point for a new site, while in other platforms a template is a separate set of styling and structure rules that you apply on top of an existing site's pages and data.

To put it another way-

Webflow templates are the skin of your site, not the clothing.

Why the difference?

If you've use a platform like Wordpress, you're used to the idea that choosing a template has a huge affect on what your site can do.

The navigation, sidebars, footer, page layouts... are all defined by the template, and the content of your site is controlled by the CMS.

Webflow thinks differently.

Webflow was designed to avoid any limitations in page designs so at that a designer can change anything at any time- without calling in php programmers to do template modifications.

This means in Webflow, you can start with a template to accelerate your site's development and styling- but you are never limited by it.

That's awesome, for your first build.

However it can become a challenge later. Someday when you want to refresh your site design, you cannot restyle an existing site with a new template just by switching it out.

It's a complete rebuild process.
