Video is generally the largest asset you'll have on your site.

As a result it can have the greatest impact on your user experience ( UX ) and bandwidth usage.

Most especially, homepage videos.

In Webflow,

  • Embedded videos such as Vimeo and YouTube are hosted on those external platforms, and do not count towards your bandwidth use.
  • Background videos are hosted by Webflow, and do count towards bandwidth.

Background Videos

Webflow has built in optimization that occurs during the upload and encoding of your background video.

Unfortunately, there are no configuration settings exposed, so you are unable to balance size v. quality.

You maybe able to get additional compression by pre-processing your video in a tool such as Handbrake.

If you are struggling with video quality, size or bandwidth issues, many designers will choose to host their videos on a 3rd party platform.

3rd Party Hosting

There are a number of Webflow-specific video hosting solutions such as Vidzflow.

There are also a range of general hosting solutions;

  • Vimeo pro, paid, but allows you to encode and embed video-ready streams
  • Cloudflare R2, which is an S3-compatible file storage system with no egress fees
  • Bunny.net
