Scenario
You're building sites for clients.
At design-time;
- You want full access to Webflow features to build the site.
- You want to control ownership of the site long-term, and be the one responsible for making any design changes ongoing.
At publish-time;
- Once the site is built, you want to host the site in your own workspace, where you can maintain it ongoing.
- You want the client to pay their hosting fees directly to you, while you make the payments to Webflow.
- You want to avoid any complexities around the client needing their own workspace.
- You want to avoid any risk of the client damaging the site
Solution
Webflow supports this scenario well.
Almost certainly, you should go for the Freelancer or Agency workspace plan. Choose based on;
- The number of sites you're building
- The features you need
- Your team size
These workspaces are specifically designed for freelancers and agencies, and have slightly better pricing to support you.
Designing the Site
Build the site entirely in your own workspace.
- You have ownership of the site
- You and your team can work on it there
- Your client can see the results on your
webflow.io
staging site
Deploying the Site
Once you're done building, you'll simply add a site plan. With the site hosted in your own workspace;
- You will pay Webflow directly for hosting
- You will bill your client for hosting
- Your client cannot access the designer ( a good thing, if there is risk they'll damage the site ), but you can invite them as "content editors" depending on the site plan you've chosen.
Ongoing Maintenance
You have full control, so;
- Any design changes need to be made by you
- Content changes can be made by the client, through the Editor.
Notes
Workspace Plan Payments
Your workspace plan is intended to support the design process. If you are no longer designing new sites, and all of the relevant sites in your workspace have Site Hosting Plans, then you may choose to cancel your Workspace Plan.
You will still have full designer access to all of your hosted sites.
